Krisztian Dobrocsi, plus connu sous le surnom Forteba, a grandi dans la ville hongroise de Vac et s’est vu découvrir une passion dès ses 18 ans: celle de produire de la musique électronique.

Il a fait ses premières armes sur du breakbeat et de la chill out mais a plus tard affiné ses productions dans un rythme plus concret, et a été en majeure partie influencé par la deep house allemande. Avec Gero, un de ses amis, il a créé un groupe de lounge en Suisse de 2002 à 2004 et a plus tard créé un studio. Avec Gabor, il a produit de la musique sous le surnom Le Garage sur plusieurs labels hongrois et a fait la rencontre de Zoltán Nagy, connu sous le surnom de P60, qui mixait à l’époque de la drum’n’bass. Il a aidé ce dernier sur de la post-production en deep house, et aujourd’hui Krisztian utilise à la fois Forteba ou son autre surnom Mayann pour ses productions deep house, Lipuria pour ses excursions lounge.

Forteba s’est fait connaître en deep house grâce au label allemand Plastic City, chez qui il a déjà signé deux albums.

Forteba or Krisztian Dobrocsi, as he is known to his proud parents, hails from the Hungarian city of Vac where he found his true calling relatively early, with sweet eighteen: producing electronic music of all colours.

Starting off with breakbeat and chill-out music, he soon ventured into the world of straight four-four rhythms, profoundly inspired by German deep house. With his friend Gero, he formed a live band playing lounge music in Switzerland from 2002 to 2004. Setting up his own studio with befriended musician and production partner in 1999, Krisztian and Gábor started to release music under the name Le Garage on various Hungarian labels. Around the same time Krisztian got to know P60's Zoltán Nagy, a Drum'n'Bass DJ who would subsequently hire Krisztian for post-production services in P60's deep house department.

Today, Krisztian is using his Forteba and Mavann moniker only for his deep house outings, calling himself Lipuria for his lounge excursions.

Forteba has signed two great albums on the german imprint Plastic City, known for his nice deep house vibes.

- REVIEW : LABYRINTH by TERRY LEE BROWN JUNIOR -

Terry Lee Brown Junior, un des pionniers (ou le seul) de la scène tech house revient en force sur Plastic City avec un nouvel album. 'Labyrinth', le titre de cet album, intervient au moment où sortent en même temps deux morceaux remixés sortis sur ces albums, ainsi que la double compilation Terry's Café et trois EPs (dont le dernier "Electric Avenue" sorti cette année)... sans compter bien entendu ses sets autour du globe.

Les morceaux sont toujours autant affinés, très mélodique, très aérien ; les émotions sont multiples et sensuelles, à l'image d'une touche funky et sexy. Au début de l'album on ressent également les influences lounge de son alter ego Nor Elle qui ont aidé à la création des premiers morceaux.

Les cinq premiers sont d'ailleurs concentrés autour d'une atmosphère veloutée, s'enchaînant d'une facilité déconcertante les uns avec les autres, dotés d'une mélodie toujours relaxante. Puis les suivants sont plus percutants : l'intensité du groove se fait ressentir sur les morceaux tels que "Dynasty" ou "Andromeda".

Interlude avec "Eyes of A Stranger" avant de replonger dans la ferveur rythmique de "Paradise", puis une inspiration très ensoleillée maquille le morceau suivant "Sunny Poseidon".

Enfin le reste de l'album s'imprègne beaucoup d'une ambiance club, les basses plus vives et les vocaux mettant le doigt sur l'intensité musicale du groove, sur "Baltimore" et "Bohemian Life"... avant de terminer sur "Labyrinth Reprise", dernière interlude qui ne semble pas se refermer, comme si le voyage parcouru tout au long de l'album n'était pas terminé.

En définitive Terry Lee Brown Junior signe une nouvelle fois un album d'une qualité exceptionnelle, riche en émotions et en sensibilité, un album qui respecte tout à fait les codes de la créativité de l'artiste et nous laisse rêveur.

The pioneer of tech house Terry Lee Brown Junior is back on Plastic City with his new album. “Labyrinth” the work is called Terry Lee Brown Junior created in his studio while he released two remix albums of his tracks, two episodes of the “Terry's Café” compilation series, three MP3 EP's (the latest called “Electric Avenue” released this year), travelled around the globe playing his great DJ mixes and all the rest of it.

“Labyrinth” truly is the next masterpiece of Terry Lee Brown Junior. The productions are very accurate, the interplay of moods, sounds and emotions is functional an sexy, very concidered and perfectly restaged. At the beginning it seems Terry's lounge alter ego Nor Elle had influence on the production process.

Very stereoscopic, reduced to full and deep atmospheres the first five tracks “Neutral”, “Ego Expedition(with Greg Parker)”, “Black Mountains”, “It Started Right Here (with The Timewriter” and “Stereopsis” give a dreamy and relaxed impression of the longplayer. These are moods once want to fall in. But the intensity of beats and grooves does not forget to add some rhythmic warmth to the tracks.

In the next tracks “Dynasty”, “Andromeda” and “Tribe” Terry focuses on beats and percussions, surprises with some laid back melodies before calming down with the interlude “The Eyes Of The Stranger” and the downbeat house track “Sunny Poseidon”. After this Terry sprays pure dancefloor feeling in the atmosphere with “Baltimore” and “Bohemian Life” before closing the album with “Labyrinth_Reprise”.

Terry Lee Brown Junior steps out his labyrinth with eyes wide open. Searching for new ways to achieve his aims. The result is a very sensitive new album with all the love for music you can expect from Terry Lee Brown Junior.

La compilation Terry’s Café de cet été aurait peut-être du s’intituler Terry’s Coffee. En effet, blague à part Terry Lee Brown Junior et Plastic City ont voulu cette fois-ci faire les choses différemment pour cette année, et ils ont décidé de sortir un double package en CD comprenant deux styles tech house différents : Mild Roast et Strong Roast, le premier pour le plaisir et le second beaucoup plus affirmé.
Sur le mix Mild Roast Terry nous présente des morceaux très doux avec juste ce qu’il faut pour être entraîné sur les dancefloor.

Situé dans une attitude très mélancolique, le mix valse entre atmosphères syncopées et influences jazzy. Les morceaux proviennent de Paralelles, Tini, Aland Byallo, J. Axel, Aki Bergen, Basti Pieper, Kruse & Nuernberg, Gorge, Tojami Sessions, Greg Parker, The Timewriter, Lukas Greenberg avec la participation de Nica Brooke et Martin Buttrich ; tous ces morceaux contribuent à une musicalité sensuelle. Terry Lee Brown Junior a réussi à synthétiser ces ambiances pour en faire un mix aussi limpide que les rivages grecs.

Sur le mix Strong Roast, pas de doute possible : dès le début on ressent la différence par rapport au Mild Roast. L’arome sonore est beaucoup plus puissant sur chacun des morceaux, les ingrédients sonores prenant forme en une teneur plus lourde. Les artistes présents, Krogmann, Fog, Smalltown Collective, Carlo, Chopstick & Johnjon et la participation de Fritz Kalkbrenner, Basti Pieper, Sami Wentz, Fapples, Addex, Steve Lawler, Gene, Helmut Dubnitzky et Fred Hush, ont tous assez de prestance pour mettre dans les mains de Terry Lee Brown Junior la capacité à faire de ce mix une œuvre d’art contemporaine.

Et encore une fois ce nouvel épisode des compilations Terry’s Café ne fait que renforcer la notoriété de Plastic City.

But Terry Lee Brown Junior and Plastic City wanted to do something different this year and decided to release a double CD package with two different tech house styles: Mild Roast and Strong Roast – Mild Roast for pleasure and Strong Roast for character.

In the Mild Roast DJ-Mix Terry presents gentle tracks with the right flavor it needs to work on the dancefloor too. Effected by a joyfully looseness the mix swings between breezy fulfillment and jazzy liberality. Therefore tracks by Paralelles, Tini, Aland Byallo, J. Axel, Aki Bergen, Basti Pieper, Kruse & Nuernberg, Gorge, Tojami Sessions, Greg Parker, The Timewriter, Lukas Greenberg feat. Nica Brooke and Martin Buttrich give their best. Cooccer est né pendant l’été 1983 dans la magnifique contrée de l’Allemagne du Sud. Son amour de la musique a commencé à ses 12 ans et surtout celle de la musique électronique, et lorsqu’il découvrit les ordinateurs il s’immergea dans la production.

Il a passé la plupart de son temps à mixer et expérimenter de nouvelles sonorités. Cela aboutit à ses tous premiers évenements sous la forme d’émissions radio sur Cosmium, une radio online, ainsi que d’une série de soirées intitulées « Flowness » dans un petit club de Stuttgart le ‘Wohlfahrt’, assez réputé.

Après plusieurs soirées au ‘M1-Bar’ et au ‘Stereo Lounge’, toujours sur Stuttgart, il joua grâce à des contacts lors d’un gros événement nommé ‘Tiefenrausch’ à Esslingen devant plus de 3000 personnes.

Désormais Cooccer focalise beaucoup de son temps libre sur la production, qui commence à porter ses fruits : de 2004 à 2008 il a signé sur Shayan Music et ses morceaux sont apparus sur les compilations ‘Bar 1’. Il a fait de nombreux remixes pour Plastic City, Next Dimension Music, Deep Class Records, Open Bar Music et Pesto.

Fin 2009 il réalise son projet Clear Recordings avec son partenaire Dennis Rossknecht, projet qui retient son attention et qui, il l’espère, saura gagner l’approbation du plus grand nombre.

Cooccer saw the light of the day in the beautiful south of Germany in summer 1983. At the age of 12 his love to vinyl began and therefore also the love for electronic music. Once Cooccer discovered the PC for making music, he completely went for it. He spent quite a lot of time DJing and constantly experimented with his sounds.

Then he finally staged his first own event-series in form of a radio-show at the online-radio station ‘Cosmium’. Also a party-series called ‘Flowness’ in a small club in Stuttgart, ‘Wohlfahrt’ with only moderate success. After a few small gigs in Stuttgart’s ‘M1-Bar’ and ‘Stereo Lounge’ his contacts helped him to play at an event in Esslingen called ‘Tiefenrausch’ which draws a crowd of 3000 people. Now, Cooccer is focused more on producing which is becoming more and more fruitful.

From 2004 to 2008 he had many releases on the compilations ‘Bar 1’ on the label ‘Shayan Music’. In this time he made a lot of remixes for Labels like ‘Plastic City’, ‘Next Dimension Music’, ‘Deep Class Records’, ‘Open Bar Music’, ‘Pesto’ and many more.

At the end of 2009 he realized the project ‘Clear Recordings’ with the one and only Dennis Rossknecht.

Now his first priority is to increase the success of ‘Clear Recordings’.

- KARISMA PODCAST 007 : BAS AMRO -

Bas Amro, né à Enschede en 1991, est un nouvel arrivant dans la sphère électronique. Ses premières productions à l’âge de 16 ans ont attiré l’attention de plusieurs producteurs et DJs. Maintenant armés de remixes et d’autres maxis, il s’apprête à continuer sur sa lancée, déjà entamée par de nombreux morceaux qui devraient arriver dans les mois à venir pour de bons labels, ainsi que des remixes par de très bons producteurs.

Si le son Bas Amro est difficile à décrire, il est néanmoins reconnaissable très rapidement. Ses productions modernes mais quelque peu old school s’ancre dans une deep house qui a un effet dancefloor. Il ne se limite pas à un style, car de toute manière ses productions ont en commun une patte qui lui est propre.

De ce fait, Amro a joué dans de gros événements, comme par exemple à Atak chez Joris Voorn, au Tivoli en Utrecht et aussi à l’Escape Venue, le BLM9 ou encore l’Odéon, tous situés en Hollande.

Bas a commencé à produire dès l’âge de 12 ans, et même s’il reste jeune ses influences vont à Chicago et Detroit : il est par ailleurs soutenu par Michel de Hey, Gorge, Benny Rodrigues, Darko Esser ou encore Quince.

Aujourd’hui à 19 ans, Bas n’a pas fini de nous surprendre, et telle sa liste de fans et le soutien de labels et producteurs, cela promet : sa carrière est tout juste lancée.

Bas Amro (Enschede ‘91) is a new boy in the scene that is here to stay. Since his first releases in the beginning of 2008 - on the age of 16 – he kept surprising other dj’s and producers from all over the world with great variation in his productions while keeping one sound. After some small remixes and releases, he now showed the scene why he deserves a spot out there by doing remixes for great producers and labels. While the work for these remixes is really starting to pay off, more original mixes are coming out as we speak. At this moment Amro is working on tracks for some huge respected labels, while more and more producers ask him for remixes. This will all be announced soon, so stay tuned!

Bas Amro’s sound is hard to describe. His tracks are oldskool but modern, they’re deep but dancefloor-effective. He doesn’t limit himself to one style, though he’s no “trendhopper”. While producing house, deephouse, techhouse and even techno, all his productions have something in common that together makes one recognizable sound.

This wide sound got Amro some great gigs, like playing at Joris Voorn’s homebase Atak, Utrecht’s techno-venue Tivoli, but also at locations as the Escape Venue, BLM9, Odeon and many more.

Bas Amro started producing at the age of 12 and bought his first set of decks at his 14th, but inspite him being relatively young, you won’t hear this in his sets and productions. Amro is highly influenced by the roots of the Chicago and Detroit sound which brought him to getting lots of respect and support by the bigger names like Michel de Hey, Gorge, Benny Rodrigues, Darko Esser, Quince, and the list keeps getting bigger!

Obviously, knowing that right now Bas Amro is only 19 years old, there’s a lot more to come, and with this rapidly growing list of support from artists and labels showing interest it’s all looking promising. As said before; this boy is here to stay

Passant la plupart de son temps à expérimenter de nouvelles sonorités, Burnski est une tête pensante dans le milieu de l’électronique. Né au Nord du Royaume-Uni, il est un talentueux jeune homme qui a fait beaucoup de progrès depuis ses premières apparitions sous les feux des projecteurs : ses productions deep et groovy ont toujours été manipulées avec soin par son intuition, lui permettant de construire progressivement une notoriété mondiale.

C’est dans le milieu des années 2000 qu’il arrive en piste avec l’une des plus grosses ventes de l’histoire de la musique sur le label 2020 Vision. Burnski a signé notamment sur Trapez, Infant Records, et aujourd’hui sur Poker Flat et Dessous, Morris/Audio, Plastic City et donc 2020 Vision. Ses dernières productions recensent une touche plus intense, avec de bonnes montées, assez moody.

En tant que DJ, Burnski ne touche qu’au vinyle et ne jure que par ce support, toujours armé d’un bac de nouveautés. Ses sets sont intuitifs et très versatiles, swinguant entre disco, deep house et une techno relativement influencée par l’esprit de Detroit. Il s’est entraîné au Back to Basics, une institution à Leeds : un des plus jeunes acteurs de la scène à jouer dans ce club légendaire. Ses sets sont d’ailleurs conjugués avec un certain hédonisme qui n’a lieu d’être qu’avec la réceptivité qu’il crée avec le public.

Son style est désormais familier dans la plupart des clubs européens comme Fabric à Londres.

Spending most of his waking hours experimenting with new sounds, Burnski is a serious studio head. Hailing from the North of England, he is an exciting talent who has come a long way since he first stepped into the spotlight – his full, deep and groove led style has progressed in cycles of growth always informed by his own natural musical intuition.

Hailed as a prodigy back in the mid 00's, with one of the biggest selling releases in the history of home label 2020 Vision, Burnski was bought to the attention of the underground dance music community with releases on Trapez and Simon Baker’s Infant Records label. Now he regularly pens material for Steve Bug’s imprints Poker Flat and Dessous as well as other top European labels such as Morris/Audio, Plastic City and 2020 Vision. His latest batch of productions favour intense, masterful crescendos and bring a keen sense of drama.

As a DJ, Burnski is a steadfast vinyl advocate and always armed with a bag of fresh music. His sets are intuitive and versatile, swinging between disco, deep house and Detroit tipped techno. Trained through his ongoing residency at Leeds institution Back to Basics - where he still remains the youngest act to headline this legendary club night - his sets fulfil both the hedonistic and more focused minds in any crowd.

His style is now familiar at some of the most established clubs in Europe such as Fabric in London.

Nikola Gala est un DJ et producteur vivant en Grèce, vétéran de la scène électronique depuis plusieurs années. Il détient les rênes d’Escada Music, son propre label, qui a hébergé entre autres Spirit Catcher, Mendo, Alex Celler, Steve Mill, Scope, Jon Silva et Kosmas Epsilon. Sa musique a marqué plusieurs territoires du globe, tels Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Jakarta, Tokyo, Tel Aviv ou encore Kiev.

Jost est né à Dresde, en Allemagne, en 1976. Il a vécu là-bas jusqu'en 1984, lorsque ses parents ont décidé de quitter le système communiste dans la partie Est allemande.

Il a vécu pendant longtemps près de Stuttgart, dans le Sud-Ouest de l'Allemagne. Lorsqu'il eut ses premiers contacts avec le monde de la nuit, Stuttgart incarnait à l'époque une ville reconnue pour la House avec des clubs tels que le Red Dog, le M1, l'OZ ou encore le Nexus.

Ayant appris à jouer de la flute traversière très tôt, il réalisa très vite qu'il ne tirerait aucun parti sur le fait de jouer le morceau d'un autre. En 1989 il craque sur un Amiga 500 connecté à un clavier portable (Yamaha PSR-3500): quelques mixtapes existent encore de ses tout premiers débuts.

Etudiant en 1994, il rencontre Len Faki plus connu à l'époque sous le surnom DJ Lamonde, qui est un ami fidèle dès lors. Les deux comparses passèrent du temps à composer, et lorsque Jost fut en passe de passer son examen de fin d'année, il avait déjà sorti plusieurs maxis. Il arrêta alors les études pour se consacrer à la musique, dans un domaine beaucoup plus deep. Il produisit beaucoup de maxis, singles et albums avec Len Faki.

En 1997 ils fondent Monoid, clairement centré sur une techno groovy. Ils reçurent alors une certaine notoriété, et ce label existe encore à ce jour, dirigé par Alex Flatner.

En 2001, UCMG, la compagnie qui est derrière Monoid, Plastic City et bien d'autres cesse d'exister. Pesto fut alors créé. Avec Babak Shayan, Jost sort alors de très bons maxis sur son propre label, avec pour cadre une deep house de qualité, et des chanteurs et chanteuses d'exception.

Pesto est donc toujours d'actualité, mais Jost a d'autres projets pour l'avenir. Hédoniste de nature, il aime la nature, la mode et la gastronomie, tout ce qui peut se rallier à Pesto sous la forme la plus simple possible. C'est la mission de cet artiste aux multiples talents !

Jost was born in Dresden, Germany in the hot summer of 1976. He lived there until 1984 when his parents decided to leave the then communist system in the eastern part of Germany.

For a long time, he lived in the Stuttgart area in the southwest of Germany. When the
time for first touches with nightlife had come, Stuttgart then was known as some kind
of house city in Germany, offering legendary clubs such as the Red Dog, The M1, OZ or
Nexus.

Having learned to play the transverse flute at early ages, he discovered that playing
music someone else had written down was not his focus. His first moves towards making music of his own began in 1989 with an Amiga500 computer connected to a portable keyboard (the Yamaha PSR-3500 for you techies). Still, tape recordings of his first overdubs done with two ghetto blasters exist.

Still being a student at school in 1994, he got to know Len Faki aka DJ Lamonde, who
should be his mate for the coming years. The two made music every day and when Jost was about to pass his a-levels, he already had brought out several 12" records. He did not study but went even deeper into music. Together with Len, he produced quite a pile of maxi singles, albums and remixes.

In 1997, the two founded the label monoid with a focus on groovy Techno stuff and
shortly after, they also brought the label [feis] to birth. Both of them went famous
among those who know and monoid, though it is run by Alex Flatner today, is still
releasing stuff.

In 2001, UCMG, the company that held labels like monoid, [feis], Plastic City and many others went broke. The time was right to get pesto started. Together with Babak
Shayan, Jost went on to release stuff on his very own imprint, now with a stress on
quality deep house bundled with singing and songwriting.

This goes on until today, but in the future, Jost has plans for more stuff. He is about the aesthetic aspects of life, he enjoys life and that is why music is just one part of it (though by far the most important), but he is into fashion, into food and drinks, into interior - to make it short: all things surrounding you should carry the Pesto signet.

That's the mission of this multi-talented guy !

- ARTISTE DE LA SEMAINE - WEEK 09 -

SCOPE

Scope est le surnom du producteur et DJ Roc McClelland. Son talent pour la deep house mélodique a depuis toujours retenu l'attention des artistes tels que Sander Kleinenberg, Jimpster, Silicone Soul, Fish Go Deep ou encore Nic Fanciulli, grâce à la sortie de son tout premier maxi intitulé "Strung Out" au début de l'année 2007. Avec des influences comme les productions de Kerry Chandler, Ian Pooley et Funk D'Void, sa patte musicale axée nineties est résolument tournée vers un son brut mais efficace sur les dancefloor.

2007 fut une année prolifique pour Ric : plus d'une douzaine de maxis, des remixes pour François Dubois, Milton Jackson & Sei A ou encore Steve Mill, et des collaborations avec Nikola Gala, Leigh Morgan et S-Groove. Scope a depuis solidement marqué le territoire deep house, et son nom résonne souvent parmi les plus grands de la scène.
